Joel Pratley is a self-confessed storytelling enthusiast with a knack for capturing honesty and vulnerability in the human spirit. It is the authenticity in his images that makes them so engaging, emotive and disarmingly honest.
Born and raised in public housing by a single mum, Pratley discovered photography as an instrument to give voice to others through his lens. A passionate humanitarian, his portraits depict empathy and compassion, a reflection of daily life encounters captured in a spontaneous yet considered way.
With a growing list of accolades, it may be surprising to learn that Pratley’s career is just getting started. In 2019 he was nominated in various photography contests including Head On Photo Festival, Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize and the National Photographic Portrait Prize.
