The above still life from Stephen Dupont's work in Ukraine has been shortlisted for the Bowness Photography Prize. Acclaimed artist Rosemary Laing and Director of Agency and Senior Curator, Museums and Collections at University of Melbourne Hannah Presley joined MGA Director Anouska Phizacklea to narrow down to a shortlist of 54 exceptional works to be exhibited as part of the 2022 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize.

Stephen wrote about the work:

"I took the photo in a bombed apartment building in Borodyanka, near Kiev. The Russians destroyed a large residential area at the beginning of the war by air. I found myself being lured inside the destroyed labyrinths that were eerily quiet and untampered. When I walked into this kitchen I was struck by the strange beauty of ash and soot, which had turned the space into a monochromatic landscape. I was struck by the melted Daliesque utensil and it moved me to capture this scene that felt unjust and lifeless, just like the war."
